Paresh Hazra
Narrative scenes rooted in mythology, folklore, and everyday life define Paresh Hazra’s paintings. Working primarily with egg tempera and natural pigments, he explores themes of family traditions, cultural memory, and the symbolic worlds of Indian mythology through richly textured compositions. Born in West Bengal and now based in Bangalore, Hazra draws inspiration from folk songs, tribal motifs, and the lived experiences of middle-class India. His works often combine theatrical figures, intricate detailing, and layered textures created with materials such as jute and gauze, giving his paintings a sculptural quality. Through these elements, he creates visual stories that echo both classical Indian storytelling traditions and contemporary social narratives. A graduate of the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, Hazra has built a distinguished practice spanning several decades, with exhibitions in India and internationally.
