Lalit Patil
Dense urban landscapes and shifting night light form the core of Lalit Patil’s visual practice. Working across painting, drawing, and relief-based forms, he explores the complexity of city life through layered surfaces and expressive brushwork that oscillate between abstraction and representation. Based in Mumbai, Patil draws inspiration from the city’s informal architecture and crowded neighbourhoods, particularly the dense structures of slum settlements. Observing these environments firsthand, he translates their intricate patterns of light, shadow, and overlapping forms into atmospheric compositions. A graduate of Sir J. J. School of Art, Patil’s practice reflects an ongoing exploration of resilience, identity, and the emotional landscapes embedded within urban spaces.

“Night is never just black. It contains many colours — blues, greens, magentas — emerging slowly as the light fades.”
