Urban landscapes, human struggle, and architectural memory form the foundation of Pandurang Tathe’s painting practice. Based in Pune, Tathe has spent more than three decades developing a visual language shaped by the changing realities of Indian cities and the lives lived within them. His work draws particular attention to the dense, informal settlements of the urban landscape. Packed dwellings, fragmented structures, and weathered surfaces become expressions of a city in transition, where aspiration and hardship exist side by side. Working with earthy tones, ochres, and textured strokes, Tathe brings both the bleakness of urban expansion and the resilience of its inhabitants into focus. Beginning as an abstractionist, Tathe gradually introduced figurative elements into his practice, using expressive faces and human forms to convey inner states and emotion. His paintings ultimately become reflections on displacement, survival, and the enduring human presence within rapidly changing cities.
