Deepshikha Khaitan

Deepshikha, is a Kolkata-based artist whose paintings reflect the layered rhythms of urban life. Working primarily with pen, ink, acrylic, and gold leaf, she creates intricate compositions wherein trees and foliage dominate the visual space but the structures are there, permanent, a symbol of domicile. Her work often draws from the visual character of Kolkata - a city where colonial architecture, marble statues, and Corinthian pillars coexist with contemporary skylines. Within these scenes, she incorporates small, easily overlooked elements such as houses, windows, foliage, and flowers, echoing the quiet details embedded within the city’s fast pace. Through these layered narratives, her paintings offer a sense of reflection and optimism, encouraging viewers to discover moments of stillness, memory, and connection within everyday urban landscapes.

“I’m interested in the quiet details that exist within a city’s constant movement — the small moments and spaces that often go unnoticed.”
