Makarand Rane
Landscape, texture, and the shifting rhythms of nature define Makarand Rane's contemporary painting practice. Working primarily with acrylic, oil pastel, and mixed media, he creates richly layered abstractions inspired by mountain ranges and the quiet transformations found within the natural world. Based in Mumbai, Rane draws inspiration from the changing character of the landscape, responding to its evolving patterns of light, shadow, colour, and texture. Rather than depicting nature literally, he distils these observations into abstract compositions where layered surfaces and expressive mark-making evoke the energy, movement, and stillness found within the terrain. Through vibrant colour and textured forms, Rane transforms familiar landscapes into contemplative visual experiences that invite sustained looking. His practice balances intuitive experimentation with close observation, revealing nature not as a fixed place, but as an ever-changing interplay of form, atmosphere, and memory.

"Nature constantly reminds me that nothing is ever still. As I paint, I follow the changing rhythms of light, colour, texture and form, allowing each work to evolve as naturally as the landscape that inspires it."
