Rhythm, movement, and expressive mark-making define Susmit Biswas's contemporary painting practice. Working primarily with painting and mixed media, he creates vibrant abstract compositions that unfold through improvisation, intuition, and the dynamic interplay between order and chaos. Based in Kolkata, Biswas draws inspiration from music, textiles, tribal art, oriental calligraphy, and the physical pleasure of mark-making. His paintings evolve intuitively, with forms emerging through a process of exploration rather than predetermined outcomes. Lines sweep and twist across the surface, while colour becomes an active force, creating rhythm, energy, and unexpected visual connections. Rooted in abstraction yet informed by diverse cultural influences, Biswas's practice embraces both spontaneity and structure.
