Prakash Vasanth Jagdale

Intricate line work and mythological symbolism define the practice of Prakash VJ. Working primarily with fine waterproof micron pens on paper, he creates highly detailed monochromatic compositions rooted in the traditional Surpur Line Art technique. Based in Shahabad in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district, Prakash is recognised for reviving this rare regional art form. Each work is drawn entirely freehand without the use of geometrical tools, unfolding as a continuous visual narrative through disciplined line work and rhythmic patterns. His compositions often draw inspiration from Indian mythology, divine figures, and symbolic motifs such as the Tree of Life. Beyond technical precision, Prakash’s work reflects a deeper philosophy centred on harmony, compassion, and the interconnectedness of human life. Through his practice, he seeks to preserve the cultural heritage of Surpur Line Art while reintroducing it to contemporary audiences.
