Tirthraj Sinh Zala
Bold colour, symbolism, and cultural memory shape Tirthraj Sinh Zala’s contemporary painting practice. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, his compositions combine strong line work with vibrant colour fields to explore themes of mythology, identity, and heritage. Zala’s process is intuitive and observational, often described as a form of visual archaeology. His paintings draw from spiritual symbolism and historical references, figures such as Shiva, Nandi, and Ardhanarishwara appear within dynamic compositions built from rhythmic lines and layered colour. These elements transform mythological imagery into contemporary visual language. Colour plays a central role in his work, particularly the use of deep blues associated with spiritual expression and transformation. Inspired by travels, cultural traditions, and lived experience, Zala’s paintings create a dialogue between the past and present, inviting viewers to encounter familiar symbols through new visual narratives.
