Srushti Rao

Linear abstraction and intuitive mark-making define Srushti Rao’s contemporary painting practice. Working primarily through line, she creates compositions that translate thought, emotion, and experience into structured visual forms. Rao approaches painting as both a reflective and evolving process. Her works emerge from an instinct to simplify complexity, organising ideas through repetition, rhythm, and sequential movement. The line becomes a central element in her practice, acting as a visual extension of thought and a framework through which portraits, figures, and abstraction are explored. Her work reflects the duality of a contemporary identity shaped by tradition and modernity. Drawing from personal experience, cultural context, and introspection, her practice navigates themes of selfhood, perception, and emotional continuity. Through disciplined structures and intuitive expression, her paintings create a space where inner dialogue and lived experience converge.

“Lines are the lifeline of my thoughts. Through them, I try to simplify the complexities of life - organising emotion, experience, and memory into a visual language that continues to evolve with me.”
