Jaspreet Gujral
Light, abstraction, and layered surfaces define Jaspreet Gujral's contemporary painting practice. Working primarily with acrylic and mixed media, he creates atmospheric compositions that explore perception, memory, and the subtle traces left by lived experience. After more than twenty-five years serving as an officer and pilot in the Indian Army, Gujral transitioned to a full-time studio practice, bringing with him a unique perspective shaped by observation, resilience, and reflection. His paintings often emerge from the interplay between clarity and ambiguity, where light becomes both subject and structure, dissolving boundaries and inviting quiet contemplation.Working through intuitive layers of colour, texture, and expressive mark-making, Gujral approaches abstraction as a process of discovery. He often likens his paintings to acts of visual reconnaissance, where every gesture becomes a trace of experience waiting to be uncovered. Rather than offering fixed narratives, his compositions encourage slower looking, allowing viewers to find their own meaning within shifting surfaces, light, and memory.

"Every painting begins as an act of discovery. I follow light, gesture and the traces that emerge on the surface, allowing each mark to reveal something that wasn't visible before."
