Madan Pawar

Geometry, colour, and architectural rhythm define Madan Pawar’s contemporary painting practice. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he creates panoramic compositions inspired by the distinctive urban landscapes of Rajasthan. Born in a village in Maharashtra, Pawar trained at the Government School of Art in Aurangabad before completing his BFA and MFA at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai. His artistic direction shifted profoundly after visiting Jodhpur, where the city’s dense clusters of blue houses, terraces, and narrow passageways became a lasting source of inspiration. Pawar’s paintings often depict aerial or panoramic views of the city, transforming architecture into rhythmic patterns of colour and form. Using tonal variations of blue, ochre, pink, and grey, he constructs expansive compositions that highlight the geometric beauty of urban structures. Devoid of human figures, his works invite viewers to contemplate the quiet order and visual poetry embedded within historic cityscapes.

“The geometry of the city fascinated me—the endless cubical homes, terraces, and stairways. Through painting I try to capture the character and rhythm of that landscape.”
